Really. I promise. In fact, when the room is stifling hot, I'm pretty sure a gentle breeze is actually GOOD for your health.
Just sayin'.

Why are they all so worried that a fan on my desk will give them, me, or anyone in our Postleitzahl a stiff neck, back, or pulmonary infection?
I hear ya on this one, for sure.
Breezes are only acceptable if you have wrapped a brace around you to protect you kidneys.
Poor Cliff! I say use the desk fan anyway...
Oh yes, protecting your neck helps, too. According to my German teacher, those in the class who wear head scarves are not at risk of stiff neck disease from the fan.
Ha! It's true. My German freaks out when I bring out the fan even when I assure him we Floridians have been using them for years. We can't count, but we can beat the heat.
If you do have a breeze, send one north for us! We're baking pizzas on the sidewalk out here - or rather - steaming vegetables.
Oh yes, it's that time of year again, isn't it? :-) People also run screaming when they hear about our ice maker.

You do net get colds from breezes or cold temperatures, that is an old myth. The reason why people get colds mainly during winter is due to the fact that in these cold months people are always crowded together in public transport vehicles and offices. Thereby they infect each other with all kinds of diseases. The air is largely virus-free, but other people are not.

Well, in my old company here in Munich electric fans were handed out to us for free by the company during summer time. And all were happy. Now I have air condition anyways in my office. So I would not generalize those conflicts.

My German ex would insist on riding around in the hottest of summer weather with the windows rolled all the way up in the car because otherwise he'd get a draft. Back in the old days when we only had a fan in the car, we'd all be on the verge of a heat stroke within minutes. But at least there was no threat of a stiff neck....
I have a friend working in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where it's now 40 degrees centigrade. She has been in a constant battle with one specific co-worker who feels her health is in dire jeopardy due to the fan my friend is using to try to deal with the extreme heat.
Go figure!
Caratime - OMG I can't believe this is an issue in places as hot as Kazakstan, too. Seriously, even if a breeze caused a very, very stiff neck, I'd rather have that and get to use the fan!
