The standard greeting "Hi, how are you?" has officially been replaced with "Can you believe these gas prices?"

I found myself thinking that when I first got back ($3+ per gallon?!), then did the math...90 CHF to fill it in Basel, but still only $30 to fill the tank here. Who cares about global warming--God bless America! We will not be denied our cheap gas!
Do you counter with the price of gas in Switzerland? ; )
I tended to assume that surely everyone knew by now that gas is so much more expensive in Europe, what with gas prices such the topic du jour... but I was probably really, really wrong in that assumption.
Yeah, my response is always "I live in Europe. Quadruple your total and then you'll get a sense of what we pay." Of course I generally only say that in my head.
